How To Find A Used Car

If you have considered your options and have made the decision to find and purchase a used vehicle, you definitely have a lengthy search on your hands. Finding the right used car for you can often be more difficult than finding a new vehicle only because of the variety out outlets and resources that you have to find your vehicle. If you are lost as to where to start here are just a few of the easiest resources for finding your new used vehicle.

-

Traditional Dealerships:

If you are considering purchasing a used car, traditional dealerships often have a wide range of options. Though they focus more on the sale of new vehicles, they do make a lot of money selling older vehicles that their customers have traded in. One major advantage of purchasing a used vehicle from a dealership is that in many cases they have already done most of the legwork on finding out the history of a vehicle and because they usually have a body shop and mechanic on site they have typically done all of the necessary repairs to get the car in tip top running condition. Be wary though and do your research before you purchase a used vehicle from a dealer ship because it is not uncommon for them to try and charge you more for the car than it may be worth.

Independent Buy Here Pay Here Used Lots:

Smaller independent dealers who specialize in used cars (also known as buy here pay here lots) are another resource you may want to consider when purchasing used vehicles. These establishments often acquire their inventory from car auctions and trade-ins and as such will often have fair and reasonably priced cars to offer their clients. You should though be aware that with a lower price comes lower quality in some cases. Not all independent dealers put in the necessary work to make the car perfect and some minor mechanic and body work may be required. This however is not always a disadvantage. Small issues with the car give you a bargaining chip to lower the over all cost of the car because you will have to put additional money into it after purchase. You do however have the option to finance through these companies and in many cases you can get a lower interest rate and more flexible payments than you would through a bank or a dealership because you are making payments directly to that independent dealer.

Car Auctions:

While not an option for everyone, purchasing a used car from an auction house has it’s advantages. These cars are being sold for an individual through the auction house and because of the nature of the sale you may be able to get prices on used cars that you would not elsewhere. Another advantage is that although you have to pay for the vehicle straight out on the day of purchase, you will not be burdened with financing issues and monthly payments down the road. This is a great opportunity for those who have the time to put into fixing and detailing an older car. Purchasing a used car at an auction also promises you the ability to name your price. If you only have a certain amount of money to put into purchasing a vehicle, then when you’re bidding then you can stop at you’re max price. It allows you to control your spending  without putting yourself in debt through payments and financing.
